It costs money to woodwork. Buying new tools, bits, blades, sandpaper, wood, hardware… well, it all adds up.
This week’s quick poll deals with how you handle the finances of woodworking. Do you use the general family funds? Have you set up a separate account for woodworking? Do you keep a mason jar full of cash buried in the back yard?
I’m going to go see my brother this week and we ALWAYS go tool shopping when we are together. So I guess my account will probably take a nose-dive soon. Making a list and checking it twice. 🙂

I’ve made the conscious decision not to track the expenses too carefully, lest it frighten me…
My “financial manager” (my wife) is pretty good about most purchases.
The pension won’t tolerate too much though.
On big items, it’s better to sneak up on her slowly….. ha ha
A good piece of advice for those contemplating woodworking in retirement is to buy the bigger items you will need before pulling the pin. Because the discretionary funds shrink pretty much.
That was the only way I was able to equip my shop adequately.
Good poll Tom.
